October 19, 2003 Volume #2

Hello there folks:

It’s October, I’m back in the Yukon for a bit, so it must be time for a newsletter!

Since I launched the website and Outside Tour, I’ve driven, visited, conferenced and giggled from: Whitehorse – Smithers – Vicgtoria – Alert Bay – Vancouver – Kamloops – Invermere – Calgary – Saskatoon – Regina – Saskatoon – Calgary – Regina – Saskatoon – Regina – Calgary – Prince George – Smsithers – Dease Lake – Whitehorse.

It’s a big country!

By the time you read this, I will have played the Backwater Lounge in Whitehorse and the Globe Theatre in Atlin, BC. Gary Lachance opened for me with a Johnny Cash tribute.

My children and I had a great vacation. Storm, Naomi, Yukon the SWBC and I left Whitehorse August 11 and drove down the Stewart Cassier Highway camping all the way. We picked up the girl’s big sister Zoe and her partner Bennett at Grandma Vera’s in Quesnel. This started many
days of visiting family, family and more family.

I gigged and we visited family around Vancouver Island and then it was off to Invermere and Calgary. The girls wrote a great song during our travels
(“jump jump wiggle wiggle) and performed it a few times, too. At the end of August,
Naomi flew back to her mom in Whitehorse, I went to Saskatoon and Stormed stayed
in Invermere with her mom.

Things are going well on the road. The gigs and festivals are starting to come my way. I’m
getting airplay across the country. My song “family farm” has been picked by
Shelter Valley Records and will be on a compilation CD to be released pre-Christmas.
Bruce and Deb Bergman have recorded a great version of “Virginia” on their new
CD “Its About Time”. (You can purchase their CD through Rose Music or by
emailing Bruce and Deb at bergo@whtvcable.com.)

There are currently five different acts in Canada and the States performing six
different songs of mine. The songs are “I believe”, “jenny”, “precious love”, “feels like
a good thing”, “sound of one hand holding”, “Virginia” “the companion song” and
“family farm”. I must say it’s very encouraging, and I thank them one and all: Aengus Finnan,
Bruce and Deb Bergman, CM Powers, Emily Kurn, Gary Lachance, Robin Greene
and a few other closet players. Thanks for singing!

Here’s what I have planned for the winter:

November finds me back on the road. I perform in White Rock, then on the island.
Late November I travel to the BC interior (Enderby and Revelstoke)
December I’m back on the prairies (Calgary – Lethbridge – Saskatoon).
January 2004 I’m back on the Island again.
February is back to the prairies (Calgary – Cochrane – Medicine Hat – Swift Current – Regina – Saskatoon – Wetaskawin).
Marsh is the Alaska panhandle and the Yukon.
April is reserved for Nova Scotia and PEI.
September will be on swing through Ontario.

As for next summer, I’ll be dividing my time between the Arts in the Park and
Outside Festivals. As I confirm gigs, I’ll add them to the website.

All the best to everyone. Thanks for your support. I’ll plan another letter in the New Year.
Please feel free to drop me a line. I do reply – it just takes a little while
