love will grow krista austad & steve slade |
I have watched
my fields turning brown
Seen the ugly face of time shake it's fist at me
Years of sweat and labour, finally took their toll --
I'm too old.
I have watched
my children leave the fields & go to town
Their future lies someplace else so far away
Studying professions I don't claim to understand --
But they feed a man.
Stubble
burns in the early morning light
Mama cries and I reach to hold her tight
The days of the Family Farm -- are gone.
The auctioneer's
gavel strikes a blow against my heart
Like a coffin nail it's bitter cold and pierces me
Seven generations built this farm to last --
Now it's time has passed
(chorus)
Someday I'll hold
my grandchildren tight upon my knee
tell them tales and stories how it used to be
Growing crops and good dirt upon my hands --
Will they understand?
(chorus)
